The Gatsby:
Frequently Asked Questions

You Have Questions? Zelda Has Answers

Is the Gatsby $50 just to attend, with everything else provided by attendees?
If we want to sit at a table, should we add another $25 to the $45 to do that?
Do we bring our own place settings in that case?

$50 buys you a ticket to an afternoon of time travel -- you might think of it as comparable to a theatrical event, a theme park, a concours d'elegance, and a dance with a fabulous band (the Royal Society Jazz Orchestra) all rolled into one. (And it also benefits the non-profit Art Deco Society's preservation efforts).

A large part of the fun is in putting together your period-style outfit and packing your snazzy-looking picnic, because everyone is a participant! If you'd like to purchase seats at a table, instead of setting up your own area on the grass, the table will have an umbrella and a tablecloth; the tables seat 10 people.

You should bring whatever you'd like for your lunch, including place settings, which can be as simple, or as fancy, as you'd like.

May I bring my dog?

Dogs are not allowed on the Dunsmuir Historic Estate. No matter how period your pooch, your Scottie or Borozoi may not attend.

I have last-minute guests to dress! What shall I do?

Fashion emergency attire: Put your men in chinos, a long-sleeved shirt (white, blue, or striped), a simple tie, and a sweater-vest. Loafers, bucks, or simple oxfords and plain or argyle socks. Add the newsboy cap or a panama style straw, and voila! They will blend in and be comfortable. Ladies, go for the garden party look, with a long dress in small prints or pastels, and a wide sun hat. Low-heeled sandals tone in. Pin long hair up in a neat chignon. Clutch purse and gloves add a finishing touch. More here.
